2007 LATE MODEL STOCK CAR SPECIFICATIONS

 

1.  BODY AND FRAME SPECIFICATIONS

 

A.  1990 and newer American-made body styles only.  Wheelbase 106" plus or minus 2".  All engines must be visible stock.  All entries must have complete bodies, with engine and body swap permitted.  Must meet generally-accepted safety standards of the industry including a main roll bar and door bar structure which must be constructed of .090" wall, 1 3/4" seamless tubing (minimum thickness.)  It is mandatory that all door bars on driver’s side be plated.  Front and rear tow hooks mandatory.

 

B.   1999-2007 Five Star, ABC manufactures body rules apply unless other wise specified herein.  Refer to Five Star/ABC manufactures book and guidelines for details.  Labels must be visible.  Bodies must fit Five Star templates.  In general: roof height 47", front nose 4", rear sides 4", rear quarterpanel at right rear 33 ½" to 34 ½" maximum height: rear spoiler 60" by 5 “ maximum.  May not extend beyond body.  No part of the body may extend more than 3" outside of tires.  Tires may not protrude outside body.  Quarter panel side windows must be cut out and replaced with Lexan and may not be shortened, narrowed, lengthened or deformed.  Must have 3 front, and 2 rear window braces.  Windows must not flex in at speed.  Windshield and rear window must be clear.  (No tinted windows.)  No carbon fiber.  Car bodies must be kept in quality and neat appearance.  Body not meeting specifications will be decided by track officials if for weight penalties.  No types of under body air deflectors allowed. NO ALUMINUM SPINDLES. NO ALUMINUM TAIL SECTIONS. NO ALUMINUM SIDE DOOR BARS.

 

C.  Spoiler height-39 ½" maximum.  Spoiler must have 1/4" slot in center for template.  Clear spoiler only.

 

D.  Complete floorboards are required.  They must be 1/8" steel, and must run to the rear of the driver’s seat.  Complete front and rear fire walls are required to separate driver’s compartment from the engine and trunk, and must be made of aluminum or steel and must be no less than 22 gauge.  No exposed transmission.

 

E.  All bodies must be complete with full doors, complete hoods, trunk lids, bumpers and grills.  Hoods and trunks should have a fastener for quick release in case of fire. Numbers on each side of the car must be at least 18" high and 3" wide.  Numbers on roof must be at least 14" high and in such a manner to aid in scoring.  Numbers must be painted or decal’s, no duct tape.        

 

F.  Front and rear bumpers must extend to edge with 90 degree bend at the end.  Rear quarter panels must be braced to keep tires from being exposed to competitor’s bumper or tire.

 

G.  Quick release steering wheel required.  Center top of steering post should be padded.  One-piece steering shaft not permitted.

 

H.  Frame height 3" without driver.

 

I.  Tread width is 65".  Must pass referee gauge.


 

J.  Fuel cell height 10" minimum, off the ground.

 

K.  Interior: Must be aluminum or steel with 1/8" (11 gauge) steel Drive shaft tunnel deflector plate.  Driver side door bars must also have 1/8" deflector plates welded on.

 

L.  Driver’s seat: aluminum seat required.  Seats mounted 16 ½"-18 ½" inside door bars.

 

M.  Seat belts: Three inch belts with double harness and crotch belt mandatory.  Properly anchored and in use at all times.  The belts must be date coded within the last two years.

 

N.  Window nets: Mandatory.  Should be under tension when in use.  Net should release from top left corner in simple manner.

 

O.  Safety: Helmet must be 2000 Snell standard or better and have sticker visible for inspection.  Must have flame-retardant uniform (Nomex 111 or better recommended) and gloves.  Must have high impact roll bar padding on all bars around driver.  Driver in seat with helmet must have minimum 3" clearance of top cage bar.  Fire extinguisher on board mandatory.

 

P.  Suspension: Fabricated stub with conventional type control arm suspension or coil over.  No aluminum upper or lower control arms.

Crate motor car's shock rule will be-FOLLOW ASA LATE MODEL SERIES RULES

All Late Model cars - The tires you qualify on, you must run all night.  No treatment of tires in any way.

 

Q.  Brakes: Must have four working brakes.  No aluminum or carbon fiber rotors permitted.

 

FUEL

 

A.  Fuel cells: Rubberized-type bladders (FIA/SPEC/FT-3) mandatory.  The bladder must be 80% foam filled.  Must have rollover valve.  All fuel cells must have two straps in both directions, fully surrounding the cell.  Straps must be 1" x 1/8" steel.  All fuel cell components, supports and framework shall not be less than .065" wall steel, no aluminum components allowed.  All cars must have a 1/8" steel plate between the fuel cell and driver, and fuel cell and rear bumper-mandatory.

 

B.  Fuel: Gasoline only.  No fuel additives.  No nitrous oxide.  No electric fuel pumps.  All fuel must meet specific gravity of said manufacturer.  Fuel lines must not be exposed in driver’s compartment.  Fuel line must be shielded from exhaust.

 

3.  Ballast weights must be securely mounted with minimum ½" bolts.  No weight mounted outside the body.

 

4.  DRIVELINE

 

A.  Transmissions: Any 2,  3,or 4 speed manual transmission with a working reverse gear is permitted.  The clutch must be separate from the transmission.  (Bert or Brinn style transmission with internal clutch will  be permitted.) NO ENGINE OIL PUMPS MAY BE DRIVEN FROM TRANS-FLYWHEEL ASSEMBLY.

 


 

B.  Clutch: 4.5 diameter minimum size clutch.  No carbon fiber clutch allowed.  10" and larger clutch must have a scatter shield.

 

C.  Driveshaft: Steel or aluminum shaft only; must have one 1/8" by 1" steel hoop and must be within 6" of front U-joint.  Two hoops recommended. NO CARBON FIBER DRIVESHAFTS

 

D.  Rearends: Any quick-change type permitted; No aluminum tubes; no cambered rear ends, no titanium axles, no aluminum or carbon fiber rotors.  No electronic activated devices (no traction control.)

 

5.  ELECTRICAL

 

A.  The self-starter must be in working order.

 

B.  Ignition: No restrictions.  A battery kill switch centrally located with easy access.  Battery must be securely installed.  12 volt battery minimum.  No traction control devices.  Ignition boxes and wiring must be mounted out in the open for easy inspection.  A 25 lb. Weight break for point distributor.  No additional add on.

 

6.  WHEELS

 

A.  Maximum rim width: 10".  Steel racing wheels only.  Minimum weight 17 pounds.

 

B.  No wheels are allowed that do not meet the specifications and tolerances of the tire and rim association specifically.  No lightweight wheels or  “oversized” wheels which have an increased circumference of the bead flange.

 

7.  TIRE RULE

 

A.  1070 Hoosier is the only legal tire for late model.  The tires you qualify on, you must run all night.  No treatment of tires in any way.

 

8.  MUFFLER

 

High quality 95-DBA muffler mandatory on all cars.  No modifications.  Exhaust must exit under car.

 

9.  ENGINE RULES-ALL

 

A.  10 inch minimum crankshaft height.  Engine setback 2" from the upper balljoint to #1 spark plug on GM, 4" on Ford.  Engines may not be offset more than one inch from centerline of car.

 

B.  Oil pan: A 3/4" inspection plug must be installed in the oil pan for inspection purposes.  This hole must be directly under a rod journal.  If a windage tray is used, a hole must be provided in line with the hole in the oil pan.  The inspection plug must be accessible.

 


 

C.  Maximum cubic inches 358.  Chrysler 369 maximum.  No stroker motors.  Maximum stroke 3.50-Maximum bore 4.040.  No aluminum blocks.  No altering blocks.  Stock type crankshaft.  No under sized journals.  No honda cranks.

 

D.  Carburetor: One carburetor only.  Cowl type air intake only.  No fuel injection.  No forward air intake.  1" thick carburetor adapter or spacer plate maximum.  Gaskets 1/8" maximum. Carburetor body, boosters, venturi, base plate, butterflies, or throttle shafts may not be altered.  On two and four-barrel carbs the choke horn may be removed with a square cut (no taper or bevel) above the air cleaner gasket ring.  See your engine type for acceptable carburetors.  Carburetors must pass all track tool inspections.  NO TAPERED CARB SPACERS ALLOWED.

 

E.  No 18 degree or SB-2 heads allowed.  No canted valve heads.

 

10.  CONCEPT ENGINE

 

A. Heads: Cast iron heads GM part #1401158, 10134392 (casting #10411034), Ford M-6049-N351 or M-6049-E351, or E352, Mopar P249769 or P452946 only.  The heads must remain as manufactured.  Valves, rocker studs, head bolts and spark plugs may not be relocated.  Porting, port matching and/or polishing is not permitted.  Intake port runner volume must be 187cc or less.  Combustion chamber may be polished but must retain the stock configuration.  No angle milling, valve angle must remain 23 degrees.  Heads can be flat milled a maximum of .050 inch.  Combustion chamber 62cc minimum volume.  10.8 maximum compression ratio.  A three-angle valve job with bowl cutting and minor blending is permitted.  No work permitted to ports above bottom of valve guide.  Valve guide bottom may not be shortened or narrowed.  Any evidence of chemical treating, acid dipping, acid flowing, abrasive blasting or other alterations to the original as cast port or the addition of material to the ports or combustion chamber will cause those cylinder heads to be declared illegal!  Ports must pass plug check.

 

B.  Valves: Maximum valve size 2.02 intake, 1.60 exhaust.  No titanium valves allowed.

 

C.  Springs: Maximum valve spring diameter 1.56 inches.

 

D.  Rockers: Stud mount rocker arms with 1.60 maximum ratio.  No shaft mount rockers allowed.  (No Jesel or T&D style.)

 

E.  Blocks: Block must be GM ,  Ford and Dodge production 350, 4.040 maximum bore.  No altering of engine block permitted.  No angle cutting of block.  No aluminum blocks are permitted.  Minimum displacement 350.00 cubic inch.  Maximum displacement 358.00 cubic inch.

 

F.  Crankshaft: 3.50 stroke maximum.  No 180 degree cranks.  No titanium.

 

G.  Connecting rods: Only steel rods allowed.  (Titanium, aluminum, graphite, or stainless rods are prohibited.)

 


 

H.  Pistons: Flat top only.  No part of piston may protrude above top of cylinder.

 

I.  Camshaft: Only flat tappet cam with stock diameter lifters allowed; (roller, mushroom type lifters and inlaid cams are prohibited).  Rev kits of any type are prohibited; only steel push rods allowed (titanium, aluminum, graphite prohibited).

 

J.  Intake: Any aluminum intake readily available to all competitors that maintains a maximum of 7" of manifold height.  The manifold height will be measured from the base of the carburetor to the top of the cylinder block.  Only one flat gasket with maximum of .120 may be used between intake manifold and cylinder head.  You may port match 1" into manifold.  No other porting, grinding, sanding, blending, chemical porting, abrasive blasting or extrude honing.  Addition of any material or any alternation from original is forbidden.

 

K.  Carburetor: 500 CARB. #4412  2725 LBS. AT 60% LEFT

 

11.  9.5 to1 Engines

 

A.  Heads: GM any 23 degree aluminum head (plus or minus 2 degrees).  Ford approved heads only.  Chrysler approved heads only.  9.5 to 1 maximum compression allowed on all heads.

 

B.  Valves: Any size/type valve.  Titanium valves are OK.

 

 

C.  Springs: Any size/type of valve spring allowed.

 

D.  Rockers: Any size/type of rocker system.

 

E.  Blocks: GM, Ford and Dodge  production.  No altering of engine block permitted.  No angle cutting of block.  No aluminum blocks are permitted.  Minimum displacement 350.00 cubic inch.

 

F.  Crankshaft: Any stroke allowed.  No 180 degree.  No titanium.

 

G.  Connecting rods: Only steel rods allowed (titanium, aluminum, graphite, or stainless rods are prohibited.)

 

H.  Pistons: Any piston allowed.

 

I.  Camshaft: Roller-camshaft, roller-lifters, rev kits allowed.  Only steel push rods allowed (titanium, aluminum, graphite prohibited).

 

J.  Intake: Any aluminum intake readily available to all competitors that maintains a maximum of 7" of manifold height.  The manifold height will be measured from the base of the carburetor to the top of the cylinder block.  Manifold porting is permitted.  No fabricated intake manifolds.

 

K.  Carburetor: 390 HP CARB. #80507 2828 LBS AT 58% LEFT, 500 CARB. #4412, 2725 LBS AT 60% LEFT.

 

12.  ACE MOTOR

 

A.  Brodix head part no SPCH.  Maximum compression 10.5 to1.  Head cannot be altered in any way.  Must be exactly the same from Brodix.  No titanium valves.

 

B.  Block: GM Ford and Dodge stock  production.  No altering of engine block permitted.  No angle cutting of block.  No aluminum blocks are permitted.  Maximum displacement 358 cubic inches,  Dodge 360.

 

C.  Crankshaft: 3.50 stroke maximum.  No 180 degree, no titanium.

 

D.  Connecting rods: Only steel rods allowed (titanium, aluminum, graphite, or stainless rods are prohibited).

 

E.  Pistons: Flat top only.  No part of piston may protrude above top of cylinder.

 

F.  Camshaft: Flat tappet or roller cam.  No offset or shaft type rocker arms.   Maximum rocker arm ratio 1.6 to 1.

 

G.  Intake runner: Volume maximum 215 cc.  23 degree only valve angle.  Max. Valve diameter 2.080 int. 1.6 ex.

 

H.  Intake: Any aluminum intake readily available to all competitors that maintains a maximum of 7" of manifold height.  The manifold height will be measured from the base of the carburetor to the top of the cylinder block.  Only one flat gasket with maximum of .120 may be used between intake manifold and cylinder head.  You may not port match into manifold runners.  No other porting, grinding, sanding, blending, chemical porting, abrasive blasting, or extrude honing.  Addition of any material or any alteration from original is forbidden.

 

I.  

 

13.  WEIGHT:  58% left side maximum.  Track officials have the authority to decide the weight of any other association visiting cars who do not meet Grundy County late model rules.

 

A.  Concept engine weight carb #4779 (750) 2775 lbs.at 59% left side

.     500 carb  #4412 ,2725lbs. at 60% left

 

B.  9.5-1 engine: HP carb. #80507,  2825 lbs. at 58% left

      500 carb.  #4412,  2725 lbs. at 60% left

 

C.  Ace motor,750  carb,  2825 lbs.  at 58% left

     500 carb #4412 , 2725 lbs. at 60% left

 

D.  Crate motor cars 2650 LBS. AT 59% LEFT.  MUST BE ASA LATE MODEL CRATE SERIES LEGAL.

 

  Late Model cars with the crate motor must have the crate engine dino tested for horsepower with a limit not to exceed 430 horsepower.  Once this is accomplishes, the engine will be sealed

  by the dyno facility with Grundy County Speedway approved seals.  The only two Dyno Shops approved by the Grundy County Speedway will be as follows:

   Expenses for dyno work will be the sole responsibility of the owners/competitors.  The Grundy County Speedway reserves the right to have, at any time during the 2008 racing season, to have any crate motor dyno tested.

CRATE SERIES CARS MUST USE THE MSD  BRAND IGNITION BOX.  MSD 6 AL WITH 6300 CHIP ONLY

 

E.  Any Ace motor, 9.5-1, or concept motor with #4412 2 bbl. Will allow 60% left side weight.

  

F.  ADJUSTMENTS;

 

1.  Track officials will decide weight penalties on high compression engines.

 

2.  Over 358 cu. inch add 100 lbs.

 

3.  Allow 1 lb. Weight per race lap (feature only).

 

4.  Add 25 lbs. For every body infraction including low roof and nose heights.

 

G.  OTHER RULES;

 

1.  No traction control devices mechanical or electronic will be allowed.

 

2.  Track officials reserve the right to check for stroker motors.

 

3.  For Chrysler and Ford specs, call Tech inspectors.

 

4.  No tire softeners allowed.

 

 

Failure to present a car for inspection when requested to do so, or refusal to take steps requested by tech inspectors will be considered an admission of guilt and will be grounds for disqualification.
