GENERAL REGULATIONS

1. Competition is open to anyone over 16 years of age and possessing a valid driver's license.

2. All participants must be registered.

3. Numbers must be kept legible at all times.

4. Safety belts, goggles, helmets and harnesses must be in good condition, and will be subject to periodic technical inspections; and when deemed necessary by track officials, the drivers will be required to replace older, worn equipment with new or better equipment before being allowed to compete.

5. Any driver caught driving in what is considered in the opinion of the track officials, and/or track medics to be in an intoxicated condition or under the influence of alcoholic beverages, drugs or narcotics, may be suspended from all further driving, not only for the night, but for the season or any part of the season as well, depending upon the decision of track officials.

6. Track officials have or reserve the right to subject any driver to a physical examination if deemed necessary and such examination must be completed before the driver is allowed in competition.

7. Any injuries suffered on the track or at the track that are not reported to the officials in charge will disqualify that driver's claim for any insurance benefits.

8. TRACK SIGNALS

     a. Every driver should be familiar with the flags used by the starters. More important than merely understanding them, is to OBEY them. Flags are a means of communications to you.

GREEN FLAG: The race is on - GO.

WHITE FLAG: You have one lap to go prior to completion of the event

CHECKERED FLAG: You have finished. The race is over. Bring your car under control immediately, pull into the pits. YELLOW FLAG: Proceed with caution. Bring your car under immediate control, slow down and hold your position.

RED FLAG: Cars causing the red flag will be started the same as on the yellow. ALL CARS MUST STAY ON THE TRACK DURING THE RED FLAG. ONCE THE YELLOW IS DISPLAYED, ANY CARS EXITING THE TRACK WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY PLACED AT THE REAR OF THE FIELD.

Under no circumstances should the pit crew personnel enter the track area. Doing so will require the driver to start at the rear of the field, or will be disqualified.

Removal: Damaged cars may enter the pits for repair during the red flag stops and re-enter the track in the spot they would be in if it were a yellow flag, but only if they do not delay the restart. To delay the start in any way will constitute starting at the back of the field.

BLACK FLAG: Pull off the track immediately. Something is wrong with your car that is putting you and your fellow drivers in danger. Report to the pit steward.

     b. ANY DRIVER WHO IGNORES THE BLACK FLAG WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED AND WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR ANY PAYOFF OR ANY POINTS AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO FURTHER DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS.

     c. YELLOW FLAG: All cars are to hold their position, slow up, and continue moving around the track in single file. The car or cars which cause the yellow flag may return to the rear of the field if they can get their cars in safe running condition before the green flag is displayed. Cars who slow up or stop to keep from getting involved in the accident will be allowed to start in their running position. (NO FAULT RULE).

RED FLAG: All cars will come to a safe and cautious stop immediately. A re- lineup will be according to the way the cars were running the lap before the red flag and not the lap before the accident which is often different. Cars causing the red flag will be started the same as on the yellow. Although we do not have a no bumping rule, if, in the opinion of the officials, a car deliberately spins a car out or causes an accident yellow, or red flag he also will be required to go to the rear of the field. Any car which is off the track in the infield is considered safe and the race will not be stopped.

Under no circumstances should pit crew personnel enter track area. Doing so will require driver to start at rear of field.

Damaged cars may enter the pits for repair during red flag stops and re-enter the track in the spot they would be in if it were a yellow flag, but only if they do not delay the re-start. TO DELAY THE START IN ANY WAY WILL CONSTITUTE STARTING AT THE BACK OF THE TRACK.

     d. If only one or two laps remain after a red flag has stopped an event, the officials in charge reserve the right to call the event complete and the positions will be paid according to the positions on the last full lap before the red flag.

     e. A race is officially over when the leader receives the checkered flag. However, all cars must complete that lap (in which the leader got the checkered) in order to be scored in that position.

Only the leader need complete the publicized distance of the race, if possible. After the leader gets the flag the rest of the field receives it in the same lap.

Finishing positions are paid according to the distance traveled regardless of whether the car is still running or not, except in cases of ties between cars who both might have completed the same number of laps. In that case the car running at the finish has the preference over the car that is not running, but may have an equal number of laps completed. The checkered flag thus ends the race for all providing they finish that lap. By the same token, the white flag will be displayed to the leader all following cars, until the leader comes around again for the checkered flag.

     f. There will be a maximum of one automatic first lap restart in the feature event of the evening. Additional restarts will be called only in the cases of serious accidents.

9. Cars being towed must be securely fastened to the towing vehicle with both a tow bar and a safety chain. Cars being towed at night must have two electric tail lights on the rear deck of the towed vehicle, preferably placed where they will also serve as clearance lights.

10. When in the pit area, maintain a constant watch for your own protection. Never turn your back on the track while a race or warm-up period is in progress.

11. No alcoholic beverages may be displayed or consumed in the pits before or during the races. No driver may consume alcoholic beverages on the track premises until his car is withdrawn for the night.

12. Pit crews may not work on cars while they are on the track without penalty [this includes the infield area] unless otherwise announced. Any car delaying the start or restart of a race will have to start at the rear.

13. Never travel through the pit area at a speed in excess of 10 M.P.H.

14. A race may be stopped at the discretion of the starter or officials at ANY time it is considered dangerous or unsafe to continue. Races may be restarted single file or two abreast depending on conditions.

15. Never stop on the track for adjustments to your car. You are endangering yourself as well as others. This includes warm-up runs where this has been flagrantly violated. Disqualifications for the night, or season, or other disciplinary measures could result.

16. Anyone using the infield or pit area for a race will be penalized. If you are in the infield and spin tires excessively raising huge clouds of dust, you may be black flagged, otherwise disqualified or scored as a lap behind the field.

17. The management reserves the right to start the slowest car or cars in time trials at the rear of the events they have qualified to run in.

18. Never drive with an arm, elbow or head sticking out the window portion of your car. You will be black flagged. Always use both hands while steering in any competition. Helmets and seat belts must be worn whenever cars are on the track.

19. Cars coming out for the next event must stop at the starting line. No hot laps are allowed on the track during the official intermission.

20. The next race event on schedule should begin lining up for that event while the previous race is in progress.

21. When entering competition at any track always know where your fire extinguishers are located, and guide your car to that area if it catches fire. At our track, adequate fire extinguisher are located in the infield.

22. It is recommended that all cars have an approved type extinguisher SECURELY mounted inside of car and within reach of the driver. It is also strongly recommended that each pit crew have an approved type fire extinguisher. (Dry chemical or carbon dioxide) with its equipment and within ready reach for any emergency.

23. Championship points are awarded to the driver, pay-off points are awarded to the car.

24. It is the duty of all drivers, car owners, and mechanics to bring to the attention of the officials, any unsafe equipment or practices, or any major rule infractions of any car or driver. The management cannot possibly check every car on every night of competition.

25. No driver, car owner, or mechanic shall have any claim for damages, expenses or otherwise against promoter, track operator and the like or its officials by reason of disqualification or damage either to car or driver or both, and they agree the track is in a safe condition if they take part in the racing activities.

26. Anyone acting in an un-sportsmanlike manner, whether it be on or off the track, arguing, fighting, with either fellow drivers or track officials, may be suspended from all racing for an indefinite period of time as determined by track officials.

27. Authorized personnel only will be allowed in the announcers stand, in the infield, and to operate the track radios.

28. Cars may be presented for qualifying one time only, no exceptions. Once you have taken the green flag, your qualifying has begun.

29. In the event identical time trials are reported, the fastest position will be awarded to the car which first turned the quicker lap. In cases where that cannot be determined by the officials, the fastest position will be awarded to the car whose next fastest lap is the quickest. Non-qualifiers will be required to start in the rear of all events they enter. They will be handicapped in the heat races according to their past performances.

30. The management of the Grundy Speedway reserves the right to change any rule or interpretation of the rules at any time in the interests of better competition or greater safety.
